The Klamath River in Northern California and Oregon is home to a large migration of Pacific salmon that passes through its waters each year on their way to spawn. After the construction of several for-profit hydro-electric dams cut off the spawning route, thousands of fish began to die each year in the increasingly toxic waters. Ben Kempas’ UPSTREAM BATTLE documents the fight between members of the Hoopa tribe and the energy company (owned by billionaire Warren Buffett) over the fate of the salmon population, the once-glorious river and a changing way of life.
