In the summer of 2005, then unheralded musicians Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart joined with their friend Andy Cabic's band Vetiver for a DIY tour across the United States. When Banhart called musician/filmmaker/friend Kevin Barker to join them, Barker grabbed his guitar and a video camera, and began to document a journey that would mark a turning point in the lives of these soon-to-be-stars of the indie music world. Brimming with beautiful footage of intimate live shows, FAMILY JAMS is more than just a revealing portal into a very special moment in time. It reflects the engaging spirit of a special group of artists connected by their passion for music and care for one another.
